Hubert Hurkacz proved so far in his career that he’s a very good indoor player. His combination of a good serve and precise groundstrokes with a very good way of avoiding many errors proved quite good for these kinds of conditions. His overall record on the surface is not that good and stands 50-46 but the eye test is fairly clear.
He played a very solid event in Metz but lost to a red-hot Lorenzo Sonego who ended up as the champion of that event. The Polish player played at the ATP Finals last year and he needs some more points this year if he hopes to return there once more.
His overall record this year is 35-17 and it’s bene a really strong year for him. The crucial part will be how he serves because if he doesn’t have his best stuff Cerundolo could attack him on his second and that might be hard to counter.
His consistency is another great asset to have in any kind of matchup but especially this one.

Cerundolo’s Indoor Experience
As good as Hurkacz is indoors, Cerundolo really isn’t. The Argentine recently played for his country in the Davis Cup in Italy and he really stood no chance against Matteo Berrettini or Jannik Sinner.
He was a bit better against Sinner taking a set but the Italian was misfiring quite a bit in that match so the result is a bit skewed.
Cerundolo has shown himself to be a very complete player able to play on most surfaces but indoors is something he is yet to master. The season overall has been decent with 33 wins and 25 losses but it’s not going to improve much in this part of the year.
I’m really not sure what we can expect from Cerundolo in this one. He could do some damage if Hurkacz gives him enough looks of his second serve but I don’t think that will happen.
He will be the more aggressive player for sure but whether that results in more winners or errors remains to be seen.

For me, this is quite a simple one. The serve and consistency are on the side of the Polish player and I am too.
