World No. 108, 28-year-old Laura Pigossi, is set to start the week in Monastir on the back of a four-match losing streak.
Most recently, the Brazilian competed in the Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma, where she fell to Ana Bogdan in straight sets. Before that, she had endured similar straight-set losses to the likes of Arantxa Rus, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Nuria Brancaccio – all in Challenger events.
That said, Pigossi enjoyed a good run on clay courts. She made it to her maiden WTA final in Bogota and later reached the quarterfinal in Warsaw and the second round in Hamburg – all as a qualifier.
Her record now stands at 22-24, while her resume is understandably slim regarding big-ticket wins.

Cornet, in a Similar Tide
Alize Cornet, current World No. 37, is sailing in a similar tide as Pigossi. She is 22-22, with her last tournament being the Slovenia Open, where she was stunned by Kaja Juvan in the first round.
That said, the veteran Frenchwoman has had a decent season on the whole.
Since turning pro in 2005, Cornet made it to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal this year in the Australian Open and later reached the mid-rounds in all three majors.
Her other high points include semifinal runs in Cleveland and Bad Homburg.
Compared to her Brazilian adversary, Alize has had a far more illustrious career with plenty of top 20 wins and a peak career ranking of #11.
Cornet v Pigossi Prediction and Tip
Cornet is the heavy favourite and should do well to win this one – albeit with some resistance from Pigossi. At the same time, those who enjoy backing the underdogs may want to consider the Brazilian – considering her prospects of winning this one are not too bad.
