24-year-old Anna Blinkova has done well to reach the main draw in Ostrava. Hers was an easy journey, surpassing Jessika Ponchet and Tamara Korpatsch in straight sets.
With this, her record has improved to 35-25. However, a lack of tour-level wins still puts her in the late 130s in the singles rankings.
Many of her victories came on the ITF circuit, particularly in France, where she was the runner-up in three tournaments. In addition, Blinkova was a finalist in the Saint-Malo Challenger – losing to Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Her most prominent silverware came in the Chennai Open doubles, where she took home the runner-up trophy with Natela Dzalamidze.
Most recently, Anna competed in the Korea Open, where she was beaten by Lulu Sun in round two.

McNally Impresses in the Prelims
Caty McNally, four years younger than her Russian counterpart, also began as a qualifier and did well to beat the seeded players like Xiyu Wang and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, losing just 11 games in the process.
Her record now stands at a meagre 19-20, but given her doubles form, she cannot be underestimated.
The American won the St. Petersburg Trophy and, later in the year, was the runner-up in Washington Open and the US Open. That kind of experience should help her to start strong against Anna.
On the singles circuit, McNally last played in Tallinn, where she couldn’t make it past the qualifying round. That said, she has had her moments.
Catherine was a quarterfinalist in Den Bosch and reached round two in Birmingham – both as a qualifier. She has the potential but lacks experience at the moment.
