Coming into this tournament from a US Open quarterfinal appearance last month, Rublev carved out a straight-set win in his opening round match against Laslo Djere.
In a match lasting an hour and 11 minutes, Rublev overcame his Serb opponent 6-4, 6-3 to carve out a place in the second round.
Rublev faced three break-points in the entire encounter, saving all of them while breaking Djere once in each of the two sets. The Russian, aided by the six double-faults from his opponent, responded with a 91% win on his first serve points.
Winning three titles this season including two on hard courts, Rublev will hope to go deep here too.

Qualifier Zhizhen Wins Maiden Match
Zhizhen has shown some excellent form on the Challenger circuit, especially since June, with the Chinese player having made the final in four of those tournaments.
He went on to win a title there, and taking the form forward, Zhizhen went on to win a couple of qualifying rounds but more importantly registered a three-set win over Aslan Karatsev.
What made the victory for the 126th-ranked player even more impressive was he fell a set behind before mounting a comeback against a player who is 39th on the charts.
And while some of it can be attributed to Karatsev’s obvious issues in recent times – both, on and off the court – due to credit to the manner in which Zhizhen fought his way through.
Against Rublev, however, things could look quite different.

The manner in which Rublev started off after that gap since the US Open earlier this year tells us there’s nothing much to worry about for him. Can expect a straight-set win here.
