Denis Shapovalov v Borna Coric Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting on the ATP circuit and another one in the Davis Cup, both of which came in 2018, and Coric won them both.

Shapovalov Blasts Noguchi Away

Shapovalov had the fortune of taking on a 291st-ranked player in the second round in the form of Rio Noguchi and did what was expected of him in return.

The Canadian registered a 6-3, 6-1 over his Japanese opponent in a match that lasted a mere 58 minutes. This followed a straight-set win over Steve Johnson in the first round for Shapovalov.

Slamming five aces and winning 81% of his first serve points, Shapovalov faced no break-points in the entire match. None of his service games even went to deuce.

And with two breaks of serves in the first set and another two in the second, there was no challenging Shapovalov as he stormed into the quarterfinal for the second tournament in a row.

Coric Tames Nakashima

There was absolutely nothing to choose between Coric and his second round opponent Brandon Nakashima going into their match with both starting out 10/11 to win it.

And for the first 10 games of the encounter it did look like that too, with both players holding on to their serves with ease and without a break-point faced.

It was in the 11th game that the tide turned in Coric’s favour as he first broke his opponent and then served it out to 15 to win the set. Another break followed soon after in the second set and once Coric had broken for a second time in the set, there was no looking back.

Coric won 7-5, 6-2 in an hour 22 minutes to set up this exciting meeting with Shapovalov, following on from his Cincinnati Masters title win.

Shapovalov v Coric Prediction and Tip
