Consistent Kudermetova Continues to Flourish

Second seed Veronika Kudermetova stormed into the quarterfinals at the Jasmin Open with a straight sets win over Poland’s Magdalena Frech.

Currently on a career-high singles ranking of no. 12, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a splendid season so far and she is continuing to thrive in Monastir.

Kudermetova put up a near-flawless performance in the first round as she knocked out compatriot Varvara Gracheva 6-1, 6-0. She didn’t drop a set in the second round either, defeating Frech 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 34 minutes.

The Russian was dominant in the first set, breaking her opponent twice and taking a one-set lead. She faced some stiff resistance from Frech in the second set, needing to come back from a break down twice. Eventually, Kudermetova broke for a third time in the final game to advance to a 10th quarterfinal of the season.

The Russian, who is ranked no. 4 in doubles after winning two titles from five finals this year, has featured in three WTA singles finals in 2022, but has not been able to add to her solitary title that she won in Charleston last year.

She is two wins away from another final this year, can she keep her chances of winning her first title of the year alive?

Parry Advances as Stefanini Retires

World no. 65 Diane Parry reached the quarterfinals after her second round opponent, Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini, retired while trailing 3-6, 0-1.

Parry had raced to a 5-0 lead in the opening set before the Italian won three games in a row and saved four set points to stay in the contest. But the Frenchwoman held serve in the ninth game to clinch the first set.

Parry also broke the World no. 152 in the very first game of the second set, before the latter withdrew from the contest.

The 20-year-old had begun her campaign with a three-set win over fellow Frenchwoman Harmony Tan.

Parry is finishing the year well. In her most recent tournaments, she was a semifinalist in Granby, a quarterfinalist in Portoroz and will be featuring in a fourth tour-level quarterfinal of the season on Friday, having also reached the last eight in Palermo.

Kudermetova v Parry Prediction and Tip

Parry will have her task cut out against Kudermetova, who is enjoying a purple patch. The second seed has looked dangerous in the first two rounds and is expected to pick up a straight sets win on Friday.
