Daniil Medvedev v Gäel Monfils Head to Head

Medvedev and Monfils have never played each other before this at the highest level.

Medvedev, Eyeing his First Title of 2019

22-year old Medvedev will go into the match on Saturday, with the knowledge that he is now favourite to win his fourth ATP career title, and his first of 2019.

Seeded third for the tournament, he has seen the two players ranked above him, compatriot Karen Khachanov and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, both knocked out, Khachanov losing to Matteo Barrettini and Tsitsipas to his opponent on Saturday Monfils.

Medvedev has already reached one final this year, losing to Kei Nishikori in Brisbane. This time he will have high hopes of going one better.

Monfils – Encouraged by a Big Win

Monfils will take heart from how he has performed in Sofia this week, and knows that one more big performance will not only guarantee him his first ATP final since the European Open in Antwerp last October, but also give him a great chance of a ninth career title.

This is also because he is then guaranteed to face an unseeded player in the shape of Matteo Barrettini or Márlon Fucsovics.

Whilst his earlier round victories against Viktor Troiki and Mikhail Kukushkin were expected, the way he disposed of rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets was not. The Frenchman will know that if he can reproduce that form on Saturday, he will have every chance.

Medvedev v Monfils Predictions & Tips

Medvedev will start as favourite and, at 3/4  (bet365) he is odds on with the bookmakers. However, Monfils has had a good tournament and, at 9/7  (Unibet) looks to have at least a fighter’s chance.

You can watch & bet on Daniil Medvedev v Gäel Monfils on Saturday, February 9. The match will be held from 5 pm onwards.
