Tomas Berdych v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head

Both Berdych and Herbert have had a similar start to the 2019 season. Their first ever meeting on the tour was incidentally last month in the quarter finals of the ATP 250 at Doha. Berdych won that with comfortable ease with a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline.

Confident Berdych Has Eyes on Title

Tomas Berdych saved two match points against Filip Krajinovic before winning 7-6 (3), 6-7(5), 7-5 and qualifying for the semifinals. In the first meeting between the two players on the ATP tour, it made for an exciting match that was eventually down to who played the crucial points better.

Berdych was up a set and a break, and looked to be heading to a straight sets win, before the Serbian fought back. Krajinovic played a phenomenal set and a half, taking the second set in a tiebreak, and up a break in the third with two match points. With renewed confidence this season, Berdych managed to turn the match around and eventually win the third set 7-5, winning 14 of the next 18 points. It was a match of quality stroke making from both players.

The Czech player hasn’t won an ATP title since Shenzen in October 2016 and will hope to end that title drought sooner rather than later. With a semi-final match-up against Frenchman Pierre- Hugues Herbert, Berdych will hope to continue his 2019 form and qualify for the finals on Sunday.

Herbert Looks to Carry Doubles Form To First Singles Title

Doubles specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert who recently completed his career doubles slam with Nicolas Mahut at the Australian Open, will look to qualify for his third ever ATP singles final. Herbert has a current career-high singles ranking of 44 and will look to strengthen that further. The Frenchman, buoyed on by the home crowd, played a solid quarter-final, where he defeated Canadian teenage sensation Denis Shapovalov in straight sets

Herbert has an attacking game, with groundstrokes close to the line and an underrated, yet effective serve. Best known for a serving motion that echoes that of John McEnroe, Herbert can be a tricky opponent for any and has shown that this week at Montpellier. With his singles game improving in recent times, Herbert will look to match Berdych on the attack from the onset. Herbert has played a good serve and volley game here this week, and will look to continue to do so.

Berdych v Herbert Prediction and Tips

Herbert has gone from strength to strength on the singles tour. He will look to keep the points short and attack Berdych from the net.

What he will not want to engage in, is a baseline duel with the powerful Berdych forehand. While Herbert has the confidence and form to push Berdych to the limit, the Czech has the experience going for him.

With a revival in form, Berdych will back himself to play for the title on Sunday. We can expect an attacking match ahead, but good form on the return game to back up his serve, should see Berdych through to the final. Berdych to win two sets to one (3/1 with bet365 ).

You can watch & bet on Tomas Berdych v Pierre-Hugues Herbert here on Saturday, February 9. The match will start after 4:30 pm local time (4:30 pm BST).
