Daniil Medvedev v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

The two players have met only twice on the tour so far – once on the ATP circuit and once in a Challenger tournament. Medvedev won both the matches and currently leads 2-0 against the Hungarian. They last met in the 2018 Monte Carlo Masters, where the third seed won in three sets.

Medvedev Closing in on his First Title of 2019

This is the second time this year that the 22-year-old Russian has reached the final on the tour. The first time he achieved this feat was in the Brisbane International, where he ultimately lost to Kei Nishikori. However, on the way to the final, he defeated Andy Murray, Milos Raonic, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Between then and now, World No. 16 had a decent stint in the Australian Open as well where he lost in the third round to Novak Djokovic

With just two defeats so far this season, Medvedev has been highly clinical and impressive. In Sofia, he defeated Robin Haase in the opener following which, he defeated Martin Klizan and Gael Monfils.

Last season, he won three titles – the most prestigious of which is the ATP Tokyo. Towards the end of the season, he also reached the semifinal in Moscow and Basel.

Fucsovics’ Career-Defining Run

The Hungarian will take the centre stage in Sofia after losing in the early rounds in the previous competitions this year. The 26-year-old, who is currently the World No. 47, arrived for the tournament with a win-loss tally of 3-3.

It is fair to say that Fucsovics has been nothing short of brilliant in Sofia. In the first round, he defeated Andreas Seppi and followed it with a three-set win over the German qualifier Yannick Maden. He also got lucky in the third round against Roberto Bautista Agut, who withdrew from the competition.

In the semis, he met Matteo Berrettini and sent him home packing with 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

This is only the second time that Fucsovics has reached the final on the tour. He last achieved this feat in Geneva last year, winning his one and only title.
