Bogdan, Making Waves
It has been a wonderful year for the 29-year-old Romanian Ana Bogdan, who is now 34-15 and the current World No. 46 – a career-best feat for her. It is quite a feat given that she was outside the top 100 at the start of the season.
More impressively, she has reached the semifinal in four of her last five tournaments, including the recently concluded events in Parma and Portoroz. In those events, Bogdan did well to beat the likes of Tamara Zidansek, Ajla Tomljanovic, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Irina-Camelia Begu.
Before that, Ana won the Iasi Challenger in Romania and later was a finalist in the Poland Open – which was also her first WTA final.
Now that she is playing at home, she will more than fancy her chances of another deep run – especially considering the kind of momentum she is boasting.

Niemeier, also in a Similar Tide
Jule Niemeier, hailing from Germany, has had quite a season herself. She started the year outside the top 130 and is now the World No. 72.
The 23-year-old is now 37-20, having spent her time on the ITF and WTA circuits. Her highlights include the title run in Makarska Challenger and an ITF title from Zagreb.
She also did well in the Wimbledon Championships by reaching the quarterfinal – beating Anett Kontaveit en route. Had the ranking points counted, Niemeier would be ranking a lot higher.
Jule later followed it with a fourth-round stint in the US Open – surpassing Sofia Kenin, Yulia Putintseva, and Qinwen Zheng.
That said, she did lose to Jasmine Paolini in the opener in Parma after clearing the qualifiers.
Bogdan v Niemeier Prediction and Tip
This is an even affair. Bogdan has the advantage owing to playing at home and her recent form, but that can quickly be negated by Niemeier. Expect an entertaining match.
