Karatsev In Woeful Touch

Last week, Karatsev ended a five-match losing streak in Florence, by winning his opening round match against Tallon Griekspoor. But the Russian couldn’t keep the winning momentum going as he fell in the very next round to Mikael Ymer in a closely contested three-setter.

After the highs of 2021, Karatsev has had a forgettable 2022 and he brings a 16-27 season record to Stockholm.

He had a terrific start to the year, winning his third career title by triumphing in Sydney, and soon peaked to a career-high ranking of No. 14. But he went off the boil following a third round finish at the Australian Open, and barring two quarterfinal finishes on clay in Bastad and Hamburg he never looked threatening again this season.

The Russian has fallen in his opening match 18 times this season. He is in woeful touch at the moment, but can the world no. 39 finish the season on a high?

Rosol Qualifies for the Main Draw

After winning plenty of matches in lower level tournaments this year, the 37-year-old Lukas Rosol has qualified for his second tour-level main draw.

The Czech had qualified for Wimbledon this year. But his first appearance at the All England Club since 2017 ended in a first round defeat.

Rosol, 50-31 from all his matches in 2022, made it to the main draw in Stockholm with straight set wins over Cristian Rodríguez and Nicholas David Ionel in the first and second qualifying rounds respectively.

The world no. 233 has been a better clay court player throughout his career. But one of his two career titles came on hard court in Winston-Salem in 2014. He is a rank outsider in this tournament, but can he pull of a surprise against a struggling Karatsev?

Karatsev v Rosol Prediction and Tip

This is a great opportunity for Karatsev to pull off a quick victory and then build from there. He may have struggled throughout the season, but he is the better player in this matchup. He has been competing against the best players at the top level for a while, while Rosol is mostly playing against vey low ranked players in lower tiers. So the Russian is a heavy favourite and should advance with ease.

Tip: Karatsev to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
