Dan Evans v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

It will be a first career meeting between Evans and Lestienne in Antwerp.

Evans Downs Griekspoor

With the scars of his catastrophic loss to Kecmanovic in Tokyo still visible, Dan Evans knew there was only one way he could eliminate them entirely – that was to win his opening-round match in Antwerp.

And so he did against a very tricky opponent in Tallon Griekspoor, who it has to be said is in his worst period of form this year. Evans admitted after beating the Dutchman that it was tough to bounce back from blowing six match points in the aforementioned defeat to Kecamnovic.

The British one-hander stormed to victory in just over an hour and 20 minutes, breaking Griekspoor’s serve from 40-15 down in the sixth game in the first set. He went on to wrap up a clinical set 6-3.

The second set had its own jittery moments as Evans found himself under pressure to hold multiple times, but stood strong to break the big server for just the second time in the afternoon to record his 31st win of the season.

Lestienne Picks Up 17th Win Indoors

Constant Lestienne is showcasing his talents even as a late developer in this close season. The 30-year-old scored his 17th win on an indoor hard court, dismissing young Dutchman Jesper De Jong in straight sets.

Lestienne put together a career-best result in Tel Aviv at the start of October when he reached his maiden ATP semifinal and ascended to a career-high No. 61.

And he is in no mood to lay down the gun in Antwerp as he outclassed De Jong in routine fashion. Lestienne didn’t even need to shift through the gears as he broke his opponent three times from 11 chances.

He will certainly need to tally some very high numbers behind his first serve against Evans. He was slightly under the cosh against De Jong whose inexperience perhaps proved decisive in the outcome of the match.

Evans v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Evans looks like a decent bet to win his first Tour-level title of the season this week. Lestienne has hit a purple patch of late and this is by no means a walk in the park for the British No. 2.
