Kudermetova Coming Off Back-to-Back Semifinals

Veronika Kudermetova has been among the most impressive players on the tour this year. She has posted wins on a regular basis and also made a constant move up the rankings.

Currently sitting on a career-high ranking off No. 12 achieved this month, Kudermetova is coming into the tournament following back-to-back semifinal appearances.

The Russian fell to Qinwen Zheng in the final four match at the Tokyo Open and to Alize Cornet in the semifinals at the Jasmin Open. Four times she has fallen in the final four stage this year, but has also made it past the semis on three occasions.

The Russian was a finalist in Melbourne, Dubai and Istanbul, but she hasn’t been able to add to her only WTA title that she won in Charleston last year.

Kudermetova is 37-19 overall and 25-13 on hard courts. The eighth seed, who has won two doubles titles from five finals this year, will be hoping for another solid display in Guadalajara to keep improving her season numbers.

Vekic Ousts Pigossi

The in-form Donna Vekic is off to a flying start in Guadalajara as she knocked out Brazil’s Laura Pigossi in straight sets on Tuesday.
The World no. 47 faced just two break points in the match, which she saved in the eighth game of the first set. Otherwise it was a one way traffic as the Croatian eased past Pigossi 6-4, 6-1.

The one-hour-and-22-minute contest saw Vekic win 80% points on her first serve. She got the solitary break in the first set and three breaks in the second to advance.

The win improved the Croatian to 28-19 overall this season. She is coming off her best tournament of the year. After coming through the qualifiers in San Diego, Vekic defeated Maria Sakkari, Karolina Pliskova, Aryna Sabalenka and Danielle Collins to reach her first final of the year. But she couldn’t win her fourth title, losing to Iga Swiatek in the final.

She was also a quarterfinalist in Tallinn and has won nine of her last 11 matches.

Kudermetova v Vekic Prediction and Tip

This is a difficult match to call. While Kudermetova has produced wins consistently throughout the year, Vekic has got into a good rhythm in the last couple of weeks and the way she knocked out two top 10 players, a top 20 player and the world no. 22 last week, she definitely seems to be on top of her game. Expect a close contest Vekic being a slight favourite due to her current form.
