Danielle Collins v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

Collins in an Imposing Form
World No. 16 Danielle Collins has reached the third round in Guadalajara without dropping a set.
In the opener, she dispatched Caroline Dolehide 6-4, 6-1 and later, delivered a similar straight-set win against Magdalena Frech with 6-3, 6-4.
The 28-year-old has been quite consistent on the WTA Tour of late; most recently she featured in the San Diego Open, where she was a semifinalist. Her victories in the tournament came against the likes of Caroline Garcia, Martina Trevisan, and Paula Badosa.
Before that, Collins competed in the fourth round of the US Open, where she dispatched Naomi Osaka in the opener.
A runner-up in this year’s Australian Open, Danielle approached the 2022 season cautiously by participating in selected tournaments only. As a result, her record is now at 20-10 – including her quarterfinal showing in Miami.

Sakkari Starts Strong
Starting with a bye into round two, Maria Sakkari found herself in an easy match against Marta Kostyuk. She took the win with 6-4, 6-4 to reach round three.
As for her recent form, the 27-year-old has had an uneventful few weeks; she lost in the first round in Ostrava and San Diego to Alycia Parks and Donna Vekic.
On the whole, however, Sakkari has had a decent year. She is the current No. 6 after peaking at the third position in the singles ranking in July. She has three runner-up feats: St. Petersburg Trophy, Indian Wells Open, and WTA Parma.
Besides this, Maria also reached the semifinal in Berlin and the quarters in Nottingham.
As a top 10 player, she has a good record against the elites on the circuit and will fancy her chances of a deep run here.
Sakkari v Collins Prediction and Tip
This match can go either way. Both players are aggressive and like to hit big strokes with plenty of room for unforced errors. Sakkari has the advantage owing to her overall (34-21 as of Thursday) and pedigree but Collins, given her recent surge in the rankings, is well-equipped to carve an upset.
