Alcaraz Looking to Overcome Recent Setback

Five titles from seven finals, a maiden Grand Slam title and a rise to World no. 1 ranking. That’s how incredible the season has been so far for the 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard, who had been more successful on clay in the previous years, has blossomed on hard courts this year and a 21-5 tour-level record on the surface is a testament of that. Although five of his seven finals were on clay this season, but two of his biggest triumphs cam on hard courts.

First he went on to win his first ever ATP 1000 title in Miami by beating Casper Ruud in the final, and then he won his maiden major title by defeating Ruud again in the final of the U.S. Open.

Some of Alcaraz’s other memorable moments of the season included titles in Rio, Barcelona and Madrid and he was also a finalist in Hamburg and the Croatia Open.

Overall Alcaraz is 52-13 but has not been in good form since winning the U.S. Open. He lost his opening match in his first tournament as World no. 1 in Astana and won one and lost one in the Davis Cup. So, Alcaraz will be looking to overcome the recent setbacks and regain the form that had helped him touch great heights this year.

Draper Has Taken Giant Strides This Season

Last week, Jack Draper clinched a Next Gen ATP Finals spot, becoming the first Briton ever to qualify for the 21-and-under season finale, which will be played in Milan from November 8-12 .

The 20-year-old, who had just two tour-level wins before the start of the 2022 season, has taken giant strides this season. He was ranked no. 265 at the start of the year, but he made constant improvement in the rankings throughout the season and broke into the top 50.

Currently ranked no. 48, Draper will be hoping to improve the rankings further with a solid display in Basel.

The lefty, who was the boys’ runner-up at the Wimbledon in 2018, has won four Challenger titles this year, all on hard courts. On the tour he is 15-9 this season, with some of his best results including a semifinal finish in Eastbourne, and last eight finishes in Montreal and Winston-Salem. He has player just one tournament since a third round finish at the U.S. Open and that in Antwerp last week, where he won the first round but fell in the second.

Alcaraz v Draper Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz has looked unbeatable for very long periods this season and that’s the reason for his phenomenal rise. Expect him to dump out Draper and ease into the second round.
