Alexander Bublik v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Bublik won their only meeting on clay in Madrid last year.

Bublik Solid in Indoor Tournaments

Alexander Bublik brings a healthy 12-4 indoor record to Basel.

The Kazakh, who will be making his Swiss indoor debut this year, has already featured in three finals in 2022. Having gone 0-4 in his previous four finals, he won his maiden title in Montpellier by beating Alexander Zverev in the final.

Bublik, however, had runner-up finishes in his other two finals in Newport and Metz going down to Maxime Cressy and Lorenzo Sonego respectively.

The 25-year-old world no. 38 was a quarterfinalist in his last event in Florence. He will be looking to produce another solid display in Basel.

The big-serving Bublik, who led with most number of aces last year, is sixth on the list this year, having struck 669 aces in 51 matches. He will be hoping to continue serving well in Basel as he searches for a second title.

Karatsev In as Lucky loser

Aslan Karatsev has had a torrid time this year and he continued to disappoint as he went down to Ugo Humbert in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

The world no. 45 won the first set against Humbert, the world no. 100, but he lost a close second set in the tiebreak. The Frenchman then raced to victory in the final set with three breaks of serve.

The 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 defeat didn’t end Karatsev’s tournament though as he still found a way in the main draw as the lucky loser.

Karatsev, who beat Leandro Riedi 6-4, 7-6 in the first qualifying round, is 16-26 on the tour this year. he had a great start to the season as he won the title in Sydney, reached the third round of the Australian Open and peaked to a career-high ranking of no. 14.

But the Russian saw a sudden decline in his form and could never recover again this season. He dod reach three quarterfinals in Marseille, Bastad and Hamburg, but has lost his opening match of tournaments 16 times this year.

He has at least safely gone past the first rounds in the last two tournaments in Florence and Stockholm and that would have given him some confidence coming to Basel, but a loss in the second qualifying round once again would have shaken him ahead of his opening round match. Can the Russian turn things around in Basel and finish the year the way it started for him?

Bublik v Karatsev Prediction and Tip
