Tsitsipas Coming Off Back-to-Back Finals

Consistent throughout the season Stefanos Tsitsipas brings a 56-20 record to Vienna. The Greek has particularly been in great touch recently, reaching back-to-back finals in the two tournaments that he played in October.

First it was in Astana and then in Stockholm, but he could not add to the two titles that he won in 2022. He went down to Novak Djokovic in the final in Astana and lost to Holger Rune in the Swedish capital.

Tsitsipas is 7-2 this month and is looking set for another deep run in Vienna. Overall, the 24-year-old world no. 5 has featured in seven finals this year, winning two of them.

One of those titles came in Monte-Carlo, where he won for the second consecutive year and the other title came in Mallorca.

The Greek, who suffered a shock first round defeat at the U.S. Open, has gone deep in most of the tournaments this year. Apart from the runner-up finishes in the previous two tournaments, he was also a finalist in Rotterdam, Rome and Cincinnati.

It will be interesting to see if the nine-time tour-level champion can make it to a third consecutive final this month. He won’t be looking that far just yet though and will take it one match at a time.

Novak Handed a Wild Card

World no. 155 Dennis Novak has been handed a wild card for the tournament. He is the local hope but has a 2-6 record from the previous editions.

Novak’s two wins came in 2017 and in 2021. This year, the 29-year-old Austrian is 2-4 on the tour. One of those wins came at the Wimbledon.

He has mostly been seen on the Challenger circuit this year with his best performances coming on clay in Meerbusch and Szczecin. But he finished runner-up in both those events, falling to Bernabé Zapata Miralles and to Corentin Moutet respectively. Following the two defeats he is now 2-4 at the Challenger level finals.

With a 6-9 record on hard courts from all levels this year, Novak has certainly not had much success on the surface. He may continue to struggle in Vienna on Wednesday.

Tsitsipas v Novak Prediction and Tip
