Ons Jabeur v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

Jabeur leads 3-2, beating Pegula twice this year. They last met in the 2022 Madrid Open final where the Tunisian won in three sets.

Jabeur Struggled in the Opener

Number two seed Ons Jabeur found herself in a fierce battle with Aryna Sabalenka on the opening night of the WTA Finals.

The match lasted for two and a half hours and saw Jabeur lose 6-3, 6-7(5), 5-7. The 28-year-old dished out seven aces and won 70% of the points behind the first serve, compared to Sabalenka’s 1 and 60%, respectively. Moreover, she had 37 winners – 15 more than her opponent.

Ons was the better player in many regards, but a few crucial points proved to be the decider. The reigning US Open and Wimbledon finalist in the match committed 29 unforced errors – just three more than Aryna.

All in all, it was a match you would expect at a level like this.

Of course, Jabeur’s pedigree needs no introduction at this point, either. She is now 46-16, ranked #2, and has close to $4.7 million in prize money – second only to Iga Swiatek.

Pegula in a Similar Boat

It was a close match for Jessica Pegula as well. She fell to Maria Sakkari in straight-set tiebreaks 6-7(6), 6-7(4) in slightly over two hours.

Statistically, Sakkari had just one more winner than her American adversary, while in terms of errors, Pegula did commit 33 to the Greek’s 27. It was definitely a close affair by all means, and not a whole lot separated the two players.

Pegula must win the upcoming match if she wants to stay alive in the tournament.

For that, she has a comprehensive highlight reel to tap into; the number three seed is now 42-19 in 2022 – stretched across three major quarterfinals, two WTA 1000 semifinals and two finals. Even in the doubles department, she has done just as well – evident from her record of 31-10 and #3 ranking.

Jabeur v Pegula Prediction and Tip

We are in for another tight game that can swing either way. Both players gave it their all on the first night – and we really impressive in every regard. After a day’s rest, the question remains if they can do it again.
