Rublev Routs Isner

After losing all his previous three matches against John Isner, world no. 9 Andrey Rublev finally defeated the big-serving American in the second round of the Paris Masters to advance in the tournament. The win also helped the Russian book a spot in the year-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

Rublev, did not face a break point in the match, but he broke the world no. 47 twice in the opening set and once in the second to win the 62-minute contest 6-2, 6-3.

The Russian, who is into the third round in Paris for the second time, was very solid on return, winning 10 of 12 points on Isner’s second serve.

The victory was Rublev’s 49th of the year. He has reached four finals this season and won all of them in Marseille, Dubai, Belgrade and Gijon. He’s also blossomed on indoor courts and a 16-3 record is a reflection of that. Apart from the two titles in Marseille and Gijon, he also reached the semis in Rotterdam and Astana.

A two-time Masters finalist, Rublev will aim to reach the last eight in Paris for the first time.

Rune Continues to Impress

World no. 18 Holger Rune knocked out 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to reach the third round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first-time in his career.

The 19-year-old, who is making his Paris Masters debut, needed just 66 minutes to dispatch the Pole 7-5, 6-1. Hurkacz didn’t hold a single break point in the match, while Rune converted half of the eight break points that he held to advance to the last 16.

Rune, who is in terrific form recently, had reached the final of his previous three tournaments. While he won the title in Stockholm, he finished runner-up in Sofia and Basel.

Carrying that form into the tournament, Rune eked out a tough comeback win over Stan Wawrinka in the first round. The Dane saved three match points — two in the second set and one in the third —  to win the two-hour and 30-minute contest 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

Rune will be relieved that the second round contest turned out to be a much easier one as he brushed aside the world no. 10 quickly to improve to 15-2 in his last 17 matches. Can he keep his amazing form going in the tournament and reach a maiden Masters quarterfinal?

Rublev v Rune Prediction and Tip

Rune has been in exceptional form recently and he is surely going to trouble the Russian in the third round contest. Expect a three-setter with Rublev edging past the Dane.
