Angelique Kerber v Elise Mertens Head to Head

The two ladies have never met on the circuit, prior to this encounter.

Kerber Looking to Make Amends

The German started her season on a rather disappointing note with early exits in Sydney and the Australian Open. That is definitely not in line with Kerber, who actually started the season as the World No. 2 but now, has slipped down to the 6th place.

However, her semifinal run in Doha ensures that she will move to the top five once again and going the distance here will certainly take her one step closer to the top.

So far, Kerber has been quite impressive although, the reigning Wimbledon champion did face some difficulties against Barbora Strycova in the quarterfinal. At the end of the day, Kerber managed to subdue her opponent as she won the match in three sets.

The third seed had a brilliant run in the previous season as she returned to the top three after struggling with her form heavily the year before. In addition to Wimbledon, she was a semifinalist in Eastbourne and a quarterfinalist at the French Open.

Mertens’ Best Run of the Season

In the quarterfinal, Elise Mertens defeated Kiki Bertens to reach the semifinal for the first time this season. She is a player who is more than capable of defeating Kerber although, she will have to fight hard.

Last year, she reached the semifinal in the Australian Open and later won two singles titles in Lugano and Morocco. Through the course of the season, she also registered victories over many top players like Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina, and others.

This year so far, Mertens has made it to the third round in Sydney and Melbourne. She is currently the World No. 21 although, after her run in Doha, she is bound to move into the top 20.

Kerber v Mertens Predictions & Tips

Kerber will start this match as the overwhelming favourite to win. She is far more experienced than Mertens and should be able to breeze past the Belgian with ease. However, Mertens has proven time and again that she can cause massive upsets – something that Kerber needs to keep an eye out for.

Unibet are offering 11/20 for Kerber to reach the final.

You can watch & bet on Angelique Kerber v Elise Mertens on Friday, February 15. The match will be held after 6:00 pm local time.
