Nakashima was a Semifinalist Last Year

After a solid performance in 2021 when he made it to the semifinals in his first ATP Next Gen Finals, Brandon Nakashima will be looking to go all the way to the title in 2022.

Nakashima brings a 30-23 season record into the tournament. He won his maiden title this year by beating Marcos Giron in the final of the San Diego Open.

There were a number of firsts for him this season. The 21-year-old made his last 16 debut at a Grand Slam in Wimbledon and also reached the third rounds of the French Open and the U.S. Open for the first time.

Apart from his maiden title, Nakashima has had five quarterfinal finishes in 2022, the most recent of which came in Florence last month.

Last week, the American was edged out by Dan Evans in the first round of the Paris Masters, but he will look to overcome the setback in Milan and get his campaign off to a great start.

Nakashima had last year defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Holger Rune in the round robin stage to reach the final four, but was prevented from reaching the final by Sebastian Korda.

Arnaldi Replaces Rune

Matteo Arnaldi has replaced Holger Rune at the ATP NextGen Finals. Rune, who won the Paris Masters final, is now the first alternate for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

The 21-year-old Arnaldi played his only tour-level match in Rome, where he was a wild card. But he lost his debut match to Marin Cilic in straight sets.

Arnaldi, who had begun the season as wold no. 363, made quite an impression this season, climbing 229 places to his career-high of no. 134 this week.

The Italian right-hander featured in a number of Challenger tournaments this year, reaching his first two finals at that level. He made his maiden title in Francavilla al Mare, Italy in May and finished runner-up in Saint-Tropez last month.

Most recently he featured in the Bergamo Challenger last week, reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Can he impress at home?
