Daniil Medvedev v Andrey Rublev Head to Head

Medvedev is 4-1 on the tour and 5-1 overall. Rublev won their last meeting in Cincinnati last year.

Medvedev Was a Champion in 2020, Runner-up Last Year

It’s been an up and down season for Daniil Medvedev. While he impressed at the Australian Open, finishing runner-up for the second straight year, he made disappointing fourth round exits from the French and the U.S. Opens.

The Russian, who had won four titles from seven finals last year, had a disappointing run in the Masters 1000 tournaments as well this year. He couldn’t reach a single Masters 1000 final. But despite the disappointments in the big tournaments, Medvedev did reach five finals this year, winning the titles in Los Cabos and Vienna and finishing runners-up in Rosmalen and Halle Opens in addition to the Australian Open.

Another highlight for Medvedev in 2022? He reached the world no. 1 ranking twice. The 26-year-old lost the no. 1 ranking in just two weeks the first time, but held on to it for 11 weeks the second time. However, because of some atypical performances he couldn’t hang on to the top spot for long.

Currently ranked no. 5 in the world, Medvedev brings a 45-16 record into the season-ending tournament. He has a great past record in the tournament, having won the title by beating Dominic Thiem in 2020 and having finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev last year.

He comes into this year’s tournament, having lost his opening match at the Paris Masters to Alex de Minaur. Can he raise his level in Turin and finish the season on a high?

Rublev the Odd One Out in Red Group

Andrey Rublev is the only one in the Red Group who has not won the ATP Finals title before. Of the other players in the group, Novak Djokovic has succeeded in winning the tournament five times, Stefanos Tsitsipas won it in 2019 and Daniil Medvedev clinched the title in 2020.

But Rublev is by no means less competitive than the other three and he will give his all in the final tournament of the season. Ranked no. 7th in the world, the Russian has a 49-18 win loss record this year.

The 12-time tour-level champion reached four finals and won all of them this year. These included an ATP 500 title in Dubai and three ATP 250 titles in Marseille, Belgrade and Gijon. That title in Gijon came last month, when he also reached the semifinals in Astana.

More recently, he won one and lost one in Vienna and Paris.

The 25-year-old has a 2-4 record in ATP Finals. He has not gone past the round robin stage in both his previous appearances. Will it be third time lucky for the Russian?

Medvedev v Rublev Prediction and Tip

The two have met six times before, with Medvedev dominating the rivalry, and winning five of those encounters. He will hold the psychological edge going into this match. He is expected to win the opening encounter.
