Djokovic leads the rivalry 9-2. He has won all of the last eight meetings and is 3-0 in 2022.

Tsitsipas Consistent Throughout the Year

It has been another successful year for 24-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas, who comes to Turin with a 60-22 season record behind him. Thanks to his consistency throughout the year,  the 2019 ATP Finals champion returned to the top three last week.

A player with an ability to deliver on all surfaces, Tsitsipas reached seven finals this year, defending his Monte-Carlo Masters title and also claiming the trophy in Mallorca. But he finished runner-up on five occasions (Rotterdam, Rome, Cincinnati, Astana and Stockholm). He suffered two of those losses against Djokovic, one of them was in Rome and the other in Astana last month.

The Greek also lost to the Serb at the Paris Masters last week, going down in a nail-biting third set tiebreak.

While he will be disappointed to have lost eight in a row to Djokovic, the fact that he ran the 21-time Grand Slam champion close in Paris will give him a lot of confidence going into his first match at the ATP Finals.

A nine-time winner on the tour, Tsitsipas is 17-7 on indoor courts this year and the second seed will be one of the top contenders in this year’s season-ending tournament.

He has a 5-4 record in ATP Finals. He won the title in 2019 by defeating Dominic Thiem in the final. Can he win another this year?

Djokovic Is 13-1 from Last 14 Matches

Five-time champion Novak Djokovic has a 41-17 record in the ATP Finals. But the Serb has not won an ATP Finals title since 2015. He did reached the final of the tournament in 2016 and 2018 only to finish runner-up. In the last two tournaments in 2020 and 2021, he was knocked out in the semifinals.

Djokovic comes to this year’s tournament in great form. He reached the finals of the previous three tournaments, winning the titles in Tel Aviv and Astana but going down to the breakout star of the season, Holger Rune in the title clash at the Paris Masters last week.

That defeat to Rune ended a 13-match losing streak for the Serb, who is 38-7 overall this year. A 90-time winner on the tour from 129 finals, Djokovic won four titles this year, which included a seventh in Wimbledon and a sixth in Rome. He also had two runner-up finishes in a year where he hasn’t been able to play much due to his vaccination status.

Although he is seeded no. 7th in the tournament, he will be seen as a top contender for the title. It’s been a while that he has claimed the season-ending title. Can he end the seven-year drought this year?

Tsitsipas v Djokovic Prediction and Tip

Given how Djokovic has dominated this rivalry, winning the last eight matches in a row, Tsitsipas will be under pressure. The Greek may put up another strong fight, but the Serb may emerge victorious once again.
