Marino Was Consistent Last Year

Eighth seed Rebecca Marino went 49-24 across levels in 2022.

The Canadian had an impressive start at the ITF level and as the season progressed she went on to deliver solid results at the Tour level as well.

The 32-year-old’s best performances on the tour included quarterfinal finishes in Washington, Granby and Chennai. She also reached the third round of the U.S. Open for the first time in what was her fourth appearance in the tournament.

Marino had earlier reached three ITF finals, winning her 13th title at that level in Arcadia and finishing runner-up in the other finals.

Thanks to her consistency the Canadian broke into the top 100 in the world once again. She was ranked no. 145 at the start of 2022 and further slipped to 160s before making the move to the top again.

Marino is at her best on hard courts and has barely played on other surfaces. She will be aiming to begin the new year the way she ended last season.

Galfi Looking for Consistent Results in 2023

World no. 83 Dalma Galfi didn’t do much at the tour level in 2022 but she did find some success at the lower level events.

She reached her first ever WTA 125 final at the Contrexeville Open in France, but couldn’t win the title after going down to Sara Errani in a three-set thriller.

She won her ninth ITF title by triumphing on grass courts in Ilkley. Galfi versatility was on show throughout the season as apart from the hard court and grass court successes at the lower level, she also produced her best Grand Slam result, with a run to the third round of the U.S. Open.

So overall she did find a lot of reasons to celebrate but still lacked the consistency that could make her a dangerous player. She will be hoping for more consistent runs in 2023. Currently on a four-match losing streak, she will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Monday.

Marino v Galfi Prediction and Tip

Marino was in better form last season. She has done well on hard courts and at the top level. Expect her to carry the form to the new year. The Canadian will the favourite to win this encounter.
