Italy’s strength in depth proved crucial in their win over Brazil as Lucia Bronzetti secured a 6-0 6-2 whitewash over Laura Pigossi in her singles match.
The Italians ran out 3-2 winners in the tie, but it was Bronzetti who had initially confirmed their win with a straight sets demolition of Pigossi.
Bronzetti made a ferocious start to the match, winning 10 straight games to 6-0 4-0 up in next to no time. Despite Pigossi’s best efforts to get on the board, Bronzetti did not drop her level at any point in the match.

Eikeri Loses to Pigossi
Norway lost a one-sided tie against Brazil, almost putting them out of the competition unless they can master the unthinkable and produce a shock win over Italy.
Eikeri, who lost her singles match against Laura Pigossi, will replace Malene Helgo and take on Lucia Bronzetti on Tuesday. The 30-year-old was tasked to rescue the tie for her country, having trailed Brazil 1-2.
But Eikeri, who is largely in the team due to her doubles prowess, proved no match for Pigossi who won a physical battle in nearly two hours. She was broken six times from 13 break points and generated 36 unforced errors.
With such numbers, Eikeri plotted her own downfall and Norway would lose the tie.
Bronzetti v Eikeri Prediction and Tip
Bronzetti was hitting the ball so cleanly and with precision in her demolition job against Pigossi. And I’m afraid this might be another humbling in the making for Ulrikke Eikeri whose singles record makes for grim reading.
