Alex Molcan v Laslo Djere Head to Head

The pair have played each other before on the clay of Marrakech last year, Molcan winning their semi-final in straight sets.

Molcan Wants to Shed Losing tag in 2023

Molcan will be hoping to shed his title in 2023 of nearly man. He has been in three ATP finals and had to settle for the runners-up cheque each time.

Two of those defeats came in 2022.

He was beaten in Morocco by David Goffin and in Lyon by Cameron Norrie, going down in three sets on both occasions.

The Slovak number one also reached the third round of Wimbledon, his best showing to date at a Grand Slam, and, for the first time, qualified for three Masters vents.

He reached the second round in Canada, but lost at the first round stage in both Cincinnati and Paris.

Primarily regarded as a clay court player, that defeat in Paris to Richard Gasquet of France, was his last competitive match.

Djere Waitimg for Clay Court Season to Start

Djere has won two senior singles’ titles, the most recent of which was in Sardinia in 2020, although he did make the final in Winston Salem last year, before being beaten by the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.

Notwithstanding that, he is primarily a clay court player – all his other finals, and ten out of his eleven victories on the Challenger circuit have come on that surface.

2022 saw him reach the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters, but, other than that, his record in major tournaments was disappointing, and he failed to get beyond the second round in any of them.

Nor will be he confident of doing much at the Australian Open when that starts in a few weeks’ time. In five previous attempts, he has never been beyond the first round.

Instead, he will probably have eyes on the weeks after that when the South American clay court swing gets underway.

Molcan v Djere Prediction and Tip

The betting market shows that there is literally nothing separating them, although as the higher ranked player and the seed, Molcan should consider himself favourite going into the match. Both men would be happier if this were a clay court match probably.
