Taylor Fritz v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players, both of which came in 2019. Fritz won at Eastbourne on grass while Hurkacz was a straight-set winner at Montreal in the Rogers Cup.

While USA managed to put it across Great Britain in their Host City Finals, Fritz did not help his team’s chances when he fell to a fighting defeat at the hands of Cameron Norrie.
This was after Fritz had crushed both, Jiri Lehecka and Alexander Zverev in his first two singles matches of the tournament and with Norrie having entered the match at 13/10 odds to win it.
In an encounter lasting two hours and 18 minutes, Fritz went down 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 as he struggled to get his first serve working. He won 67% of the first serve points, which was lower than the 77% his opponent won.
This was in sharp contrast to the 96% of the first serve points he won against Zverev.
In both those matches though, Fritz had problems in getting too many of his first serves in – 61% against Norrie and 60% against Zverev. Norrie is the one who made him pay for it.

Hurkacz Falls to Berrettini
Much like Fritz, Hurkacz enters this match on the back of successive wins in the group stages of the tournament but a defeat in the Host City Final.
Having needed three sets against Alexander Bublik, Hurkacz was a straight-set winner over Stan Wawrinka but then fell in three to Matteo Berrettini of Italy.
It was a match that could have tilted either way, but it was Hurkacz’s slightly worse serving figures that tilted it in Berrettini’s favour.
The first serves in, first serves won and second serves won read 62%, 73% and 53% respectively for the Polish number while his opponent had 64%, 76% and 64% as those three stats. That proved to be the difference between the two.
Coming up against a player who himself could improve his serving, Hurkacz will know it’s a battle of the equals in a lot of ways and it’s the one percenters which could make all the difference.
Fritz v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip
While Fritz starts off a favourite here, his loss to Norrie suggests it might not be a done deal against Hurkacz. What it could also suggest is we could see a rollicking contest, especially now that Iga Swiatek has lost to Jessica Pegula in the previous match, making this very vital for Hurkacz to win.
