Anhelina Kalinina v Rebecca Marino Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 25 year old Ukrainian, and the Canadian, who is seven years older.

The beaten finalist in the US girls’ singles final at the US Open in 2014, Kalinina has yet to enjoy success on the senior WTA tour, although she was the beaten finalist in Budapest in 2021, losing to Yulia Putintseva.
However, she did end 2022 on a fine note, winning the WTA Challenger Final, beating Clara Tauson of Denmark in three sets in France.
Her other major achievement last year, which was dominated by the backdrop of the armed invasion of her country, was reaching her maiden WTA 1000 quarter-final in Madrid, having previously got as far as the fourth round in Miami.
She will be hoping in a few weeks’ time to do better at the Australian Open this time round than she managed last year, when she lost in the first round.
Her season began in Adelaide, where she had to come through qualifying to earn herself a place in the main draw against Victoria Azarenka.
On that occasion the former world number one proved too strong for her, and she was beaten in straight sets.

Marino Reached Second Round in Auckland
Marino reached her one senior final back at the US National Indoors Championship, but she may wonder what might have been had she not stepped away from the sport entirely for five years.
Since returning in 2018, she has enjoyed some success on the ITF tour, and, last year, she reached three finals, winning one of them in Arcadia, the USA.
On the senior tour, one of the highlights of her 2022 season was reaching the third round of the US Open for the first time in her career, before eventually losing to Shuai Zhang of China in straight sets.
And she also notched up quarter-final appearances in Washington, Granby, and Chennai.
She began her season in Auckland, where she won her opening match, beating Dalma Galfi of Hungary in straight sets.
But she then lost to Ysaline Bonaventure of France, despite winning the first set of their match.

Kalinina has more recent pedigree on the WTA tour, and she will have eyes on a strong season as she looks to climb up the rankings.
She should expect to beat the more experienced Canadian.
