Pablo Carreno Busta v Soonwoo Kwon Head to Head

Carreno Busta leads the head-to-head over Soonwoo Kwo 2-0, winning both matches during the 2021 season, first in Marbella and then at Winston-Salem.

Carreno Busta Yet to Play in 2023

Pablo Carreno Busta will officially play for the first time in 2023 at the Adelaide International 2. The Spaniard was Spain’s No. 2 player in the United Cup but did not play due to injury.

Carreno Busta was forced to watch on from the sidelines as his country struggled to produce a result of any substance, with Rafael Nadal and Albert Ramos Vinolas (his deputy) far from convincing.

We would never how Spain would fare had he been fit to play. But there is no doubt they would have challenged the likes of Great Britain and Australia, considering that Carreno Busta was an integral member in Spain’s ATP Cup run to the final in 2022.

Carreno Busta put together one the best seasons of his career last year, winning his biggest ATP title at the Canadian Masters. It will be interesting to see how fit the World No. 15 is in his first match of the season this week with the Australian Open around the corner.

Kwon Beats Machac in a Rematch

Soonwoo Kwon lost in the final round of qualifying to Tomas Machac 5-7 6-3 3-6 on Monday, but got into the main draw as a lucky loser after a spate of withdrawals.

And as fate would have it, he drew Machac in the first round, except that this time the outcome would be different. Kwon made amends from his three-set defeat 24 hours earlier and stayed solid behind his serve.

Despite Machac generating a whopping 11 break points, Kwon saved nine of them. The South Korean No. 1 had a better first-serve percentage, fired six aces to his opponent’s five, and came away with a 6-4 6-4 win.

He was clinical when he had the chance to break Machac, doing so twice in each set to round off a deserved win on Court 2. Next up for him is a meeting against the number two seed whom he has never beaten before.

Carreno Busta v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Carreno Busta comes in as the overwhelming favorite, but at 1/4, having not played any matches since November, it is extremely harsh on Kwon. The South Korean has touched as high as No. 52 in the rankings not too long ago and has the tools to run the Spaniard close and potentially steal the win.
