Miomir Kecmanovic v Jason Kubler Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Kecmanovic’s Shaky Start

Miomir Kecmanovic is not playing on the same level he opened last year. He’s parted ways with coach David Nalbandian and seems a bit unsure of how to approach things. Two wins so far and one less. Wins over Christopher O’Connell and Kyles Edmund and a loss to Daniil Medvedev.

The wins were pretty decent from the Serbian who is still a very good player but nowhere near his top-10 level at the start of the year. It became apparent against Medvedev as the Russian rolled past Kecmanovic without any issues. It’s not a huge deal but it presents issues when faced with better-than-average players.

He’ll need to start winning those matches if he hopes to become a regular top-20 player or if he wants to be a top-10 player which is his stated goal. There is a certain amount of pressure on Kecmaovic in these weeks as well.

He collected a lot of points last year and if he’s not careful he might lose most of them and find himself outside of the top 50. Knowing how clay is not his best surface, I could see him slide even further. This is a match he must win for several reasons.

Kubler Undefeated in 2023

Jason Kubler has not lost a match in the new season and he played some solid opposition. The Australian player had a really good year in 2022 and had Wimbledon points counted, he would have finished inside the top 50. He’s certainly capable of playing at that level but anything more than that seems unlikely.

Backed by a home crowd though, Kubler looks dangerous. Wins over Dan Evans and Albert Ramos Vinos in the United Cup showed he’s feeling good and playing solid tennis.

He added another win over Tomas Etcheverry in Adelaide and now looks primed for another one. The improvement on consistency is what got him back to the top of tennis but he improved in other areas as well. He’s more confident in his game as the basics were always there.

A chance to book a rare quarterfinal at an ATP event will be further motivation as he hopes to use this Australian Summer as a good launch into the new year.

Kecmanovic v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic is the favoured player as he’s higher ranked and won their only clash five years ago. It was on the challenger Tour and both changed dramatically since then. I do think he’s more likely to win again but don’t be shocked if Kubler pushes this into three sets.
