Yulia Putintseva v Nuria Parrizas Diaz Head to Head

The two players have met just once. That meeting occurred in the BJK Cup Finals in November, where Diaz won the match 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5).

Putintseva Dispatches Liu

Yulia Putintseva, current World No. 51, is off to a good start in Hobart as she quickly surpassed Claire Liu 6-2, 6-4. The match lasted 94 minutes and saw the Kazakh win 74% of the points behind the first serve.

The 28-year-old last played in the United Cup, losing her fixtures in the group stage to Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic.

Looking at her form in the last five tournaments – including the Hobart International – Putintseva has bagged just two wins. She ended last season on an underwhelming note at 26-21. Her standout runs came in Istanbul and Budapest where she was a semifinalist, and in Toronto where she reached the quarters.

Given the current draw in Hobart, Putintseva seems well-poised for a good run here.

Diaz Knocks Out Sherif

On the other hand, Nuria Parrizas Diaz was off to a wobbly start as she survived Mayar Sherif 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Starting from the qualifiers, the Spaniard has faced her fair share of resistance to make it this far.

In the first match over the weekend, she beat Yue Yuan 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and then Xinyu Wang 7-6, 6-1.

Considering her last season, Diaz’s form went down significantly compared to 2021. She ended the season 26-31 in stark contrast to 52-17 from the year before.

Owing to a dearth of silverware and only a handful of late-round showings, Nuria’s ranking also took a hit – she is now ranked #77 after peaking at the 45th spot last May.

The Spaniard last played in the United Cup, beating Madison Inglis but losing to Katie Swan.

Diaz v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

This match can go either way, as there isn’t much separating the two athletes. However, Putintseva has the edge owing to a superior pedigree and experience.
