Daria Kasatkina v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the Madrid Open in 2018 and Kvitova had won that match in straight sets on her way to winning that title.

Kvitova Wins a Potentially Close Encounter

The reason why I call it a potentially close encounter is because it looked to be shaping up to be like that. Kvitova had been taken to a tie-breaker in the first set by Qinwen Zheng when she retired from the match because of fitness concerns.

By the looks of it, things could have gone either way but for Kvitova’s experience which helped her save three set-points in the opening set.

In fact, it looked like Kvitova never had things under control until the very end when she swooped in from being 6-3 down in the tie-breaker to win five points in a row and take the set.

Earlier, Kvitova needed to break Zheng twice as the Chinese player served for the set too.

Kvitova, a shock winner over the Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina in the first round, is on a four-match winning streak at the moment.

Kasatkina Shocks Krejcikova

Kasatkina was 11/10 underdog going into her second round encounter against Barbora Krejcikova. And this was no surprise despite Kasatkina’s superior ranking; after all she had lost her opener last week to the little-known Linda Noskova and was up against a player showing a return to her best.

What actually transpired was Kasatkina found her rhythm very early in the encounter and raced off to a 6-2, 7-5 win over Krejcikova with the match lasting just an hour and 32 minutes.

The Russian gave her opponent no chance to settle down as she took a 4-0 lead in the first set and while she lost her serve once in the process, Kasatkina closed it out by getting the better of Krejcikova’s serve for the third time.

The second set was tighter with just one breaking opportunity for both players till the 11th game. In the 12th, serving to stay in the match, Krejcikova fell 0-40 behind and while she saved two match-points, Kasatkina made use of the third to clinch the win.

Can she now give Kvitova a run for her money?

Kasatkina v Kvitova Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a gripping contest, especially given the kind of form Kvitova has shown this season. We could see the Czech edging Kasatkina out in three here.
