Corić, Another Next Gen Player to Watch Out?
22-year old Corić is part of the new generation of players that includes Alexander Zeverev, Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas that are threatening to replace the old guard of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer at the top of the world game in the next few years.
Known more for his ability to play from the back of the court, he has won two ATP titles to date, and helped his country win the Davis Cup last November. He then went on to match his best showing at a Grand Slam event in Melbourne by reaching the fourth round, before losing to Lucas Pouille in the fourth round.
He has not played since that match so should be fresh when he faces Humbert on Thursday.
Humbert, a Young French Wildcard Punching Beyond His Weight?
20-year old Ugo Humbert has played most of his tennis to date on the junior ITF and ATP Challenger tours, where has been relatively successful, winning four Challenger titles and reaching three other finals.
On the senior tour, his best result to date probably came in the Moselle Open last year, where he beat Bernard Tomic in 3 sets, before going on to lose to Stan Wawrinka.
A wildcard entrant to this tournament, he beat Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the first round 6-3, 7-6.
Corić v Humbert Predictions & Tips
Corić is 2/5 on to win (William Hill) with Humbert 21/10 against. Given their disparity in world rankings and experience this would seem reasonable, with the one proviso being that Corić has not played for nearly a month and is short of match practice.
