Pliskova v Hsieh Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once on the tour – that encounter took place in 2018 Miami Open. Pliskova won that match in three sets to reach the quarterfinal.

Hsieh Delivers a Major Upset

Su-Wei Hsieh is heading into this fixture after defeating the fifth-seeded German Angelique Kerber in the third round. It was a formidable performance by the 33-year-old, who stopped Kerber with 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. That win also marked one of her best performances on the WTA Tour.

The Taiwanese player started her campaign in Dubai against Anastasija Sevastova, who was seeded 10th for the competition. Hsieh defeated her comfortably in straight sets, losing just six games in the process. She then met Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the next round wherein, where produced a similar result with 6-1, 6-2.

Last time she reached the quarterfinal on the tour was back in Auckland earlier this year. There, she made it as far as the semis where she lost to Bianca Andreescu. After that, she suffered a string of early defeats in Sydney, Melbourne, Hua Hin, and Doha before finding her form in Dubai.

Her last singles title was Japan’s Women Open in 2018 – a title she won after a pause of six years.

Pliskova Continues to Impress as Usual

The World No. 5 has been playing some brilliant tennis this season and is well on the path to win her second singles title of the season. After defeating Dominika Cibulkova in her opening match in Dubai, she halted Alison Riske’s rise in the third round in straight sets.

Pliskova has lost only two matches this season – one to Naomi Osaka in the semifinal of the Australian and the other to Simona Halep in the Fed Cup. She also won the title in Brisbane, taking her singles title tally up to 12.

The level of efficiency with which Pliskova has kickstarted her season is truly phenomenal. She has taken breaks strategically to avoid succumbing to fatigue and has been in good spirits throughout.

Pliskova v Hsieh Predictions & Tips

Expect this to be a match where Pliskova will face some resistance from Hsieh.  The Taiwanese is soaring high on confidence after her impressive win over Kerber and she can very well upset Pliskova too. Nonetheless, Pliskova will start as the favourite here with bet365 offering 1/2.
