Jelena Ostapenko v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

Yastremska leads 1-0, last beating Ostapenko in the 2022 Birmingham Classic in three sets.

Ostapenko, Struggling to Deliver Results

World No. 18 Jelena Ostapenko has endured a shoddy spell in the first two weeks. She is heading into the Australian Open with hardly any singles traction – but then again, so is Yastremska.

The 25-year-old Latvian participated in both editions of Adelaide International but failed to go deep. In the first week, she beat Karolina Pliskova but lost to Irina-Camelia Begu; in week two, she was stunned by Anna Kalinskaya in the opener.

In the doubles department, Ostapenko did reach the semifinal in Adelaide 1 with Liudmila Kichenok but lost to the pairing of Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend.

Jelena’s last two seasons ended with the same tally of 33-19. In 2022, however, she did win the Dubai Championships, reached the finals in Seoul and Eastbourne, and the semifinal in Doha.

Yastremska Replaces Osaka

Dayana Yastremska earned a ticket to the main draw after replacing the two-time Aus Open champion Naomi Osaka, who withdrew from the tournament because of her pregnancy.

The Ukrainian will make the most of this chance, hoping to better her third-round showing in Melbourne in 2019.

As a highly aggressive player, she is equipped to make things difficult for Ostapenko, but given her recent form, things may be different in action.

Yastremska competed in Adelaide 1 and lost to Anhelina Kalinina in the opener. Thereafter, she only played in an exhibition event to raise funds for war-torn Ukraine with Rafael Nadal, Cori Gauff, Maria Sakkari, and other players.

Currently ranked #99, Dayana is on the verge of slipping out of the top 100 again if she fails to step up. She ended the 2022 season at 21-25.

Ostapenko v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Ostapenko is the favourite to win, but given the lack of results from the duo, anything can happen here. After all, Yastremska has all the precedents she needs to beat her opponent.
