Bejlek Clears the Qualifiers

16-year-old Sara Bejlek is set to compete in her second main draw of a Grand Slam. Her last such stint was in the US Open, where she fell to Liudmila Samsonova – only after beating Kristina Mladenovic, Priscilla Hon, and Heather Watson.

This time, in Melbourne, she beat Darya Astakhova, Alycia Parks, and Erika Andreeva to make it to the first week.

Before that, Bejlek competed in an ITF event in Canberra, where she lost in round two to Mai Hontama.

Looking at her form last year, Sara competed mainly on the ITF circuit, where she took home three titles and the Junior French Open doubles crown with Lucie Havlickova.

Krejcikova, Seeking Momentum

In February last year, Barbora Krejcikova became the World No. 2. Now, she is ranked #21.

However, this isn’t to say that she is going through a bad form; by all means, she is still the doubles number three and can reach the top 10 again.

Krejcikova concluded the last season by winning consecutive titles in Ostrava and Tallinn, where she dismissed Anett Kontaveit, Belinda Bencic, Iga Swiatek, and Beatriz Haddad Maia. In the doubles department, she won three majors and reached the final in WTA Finals with Katerina Siniakova.

So far in 2023, the 27-year-old Czech featured only in Adelaide International 2 – where she lost to Daria Kasatkina in round two.

Krejcikova v Bejlek Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova, because of her superior pedigree and experience, is the favourite in this match. However, upsets have occurred early on in majors – especially at the hands of rising stars. Bejlek, placed at high odds of 7/2, is a bet worth making in such circumstances.
