Taylor Fritz v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head

Four matches have been played between these two players and both have won two. All those matches have come in hardcourt competitions with Basilashvili interestingly winning their last match in 2021 at Indian Wells.

Fritz 4-1 at United Cup

Fritz kick-started his season at the United Cup and did remarkably well in the tournament. In fact he was one of those instrumental in helping the USA carve out a title win in the first ever edition of this tournament.

While Fritz went down fighting to Cameron Norrie in USA’s tie against Great Britain, wins over Jiri Lehecka, Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz and Matteo Berrettini on either side of that loss helped him garner some valuable points.

The American enters this season on the back of a season in which he won three titles, including a Masters 1000 tournament victory in Indian Wells.

His next aim would be to improve his performances in Grand Slams with Fritz having never made it past the fourth round at the Australian Open either. Can he do that this time around?

Basilashvili’s Fallen Away to 89th

Once, in a not-so-distant past, Basilashvili was ranked 16th in the world. A year or so on, the Georgian player has fallen to 89th thanks to a string of underwhelming performances in 2022.

And things looked to have continued to remain the same for Basilashvili who struggled through both, the Pune Open and the Adelaide International.

In the first tournament of the season in Pune, Basilashvili won just four games in his opener against Marco Cecchinato. He followed that up with an attempt to qualify for the main draw in Adelaide but had to retire from his match against Mikael Ymer after losing the first set.

Basilashvili’s fitness has been a concern at different points over the last 18 months or so and coming into this encounter against Fritz, his main goal would be to compete and last the match. Anything more than that would be a bonus.

Fritz v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip

Fritz is 1/25 to win this and should not have any problem doing that in straight sets.
