It will be a first meeting between the two.

Ramos-Vinolas Has Made Nine First-Round Exits in the Tournament

Albert Ramos-Vinolas will be making his 12th appearance at the Australian Open, but the left-hander doesn’t have a great record in the tournament as he has been beaten in the first round nine times,

The two times he made it past the opening round were in 2016 and 2018. While he lost in the second round in 2016, he could only reach as far as the third round in 2018. The last four years have seen him make first round exits.

But it is not just the Australian Open, the 34-year-old has always found things difficult on hard courts. The clay court specialist is 74-130 on hard court over his career, while he is 186-151 on his favourite surface, where he has claimed all four of his career titles and also finished runner-up on six occasions.

He has reached just one hard court final in his career and that was in Chengdu in 2016.

Ramos-Vinolas, who won a title in Cordoba last year, and also reached a couple of clay court semifinals, was 4-7 on hard courts.

The Spaniard is 0-3 this year, but all his three matches so far have gone the distance.

Ramos-Vinolas lost to Daniel Evans of Britain and Jason Kubler of Australia at the United Cup and then went down to John Millman in the first round of Adelaide-2.

That match went the distance and Ramos-Vinolas had two match points in the deciding set tiebreak, but he could not take either of them and Millman capitalised on his only match point opportunity to seal the contest.

Cressy Looking to Build on Last Year’s Exploits

2022 was a big year for Maxime Cressy. The American was impressive from the very first tournament of the year and although there were phases when he found the going tough, but he always found a way to bounce back.

In all, Cressy finished the season with a 26-27 record on the tour and an overall record of 34-30. The season also saw him break into the top 100 in the world and he peaked to no. 31 in August. Cressy featured in three finals and won his maiden title by beating Alexander Bublik on grass in Newport.

He had finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal in the season opener in Melbourne Summer Set 1 and and also finished second in Eastbourne after losing the final to Taylor Fritz.

Cressy delivered his best Grand Slam result at the Australian Open last year, reaching the fourth round of the tournament in just his second main draw appearance in the tournament.

The big-serving 25-year-old right-hander is 0-1 in 2023. He lost his only match to Thanasi Kokkinakis in Adelaide-1. Can he get his first win of the season on Tuesday?

Ramos-Vinolas v Cressy Prediction and Tip

Cressy is better equipped to play on hard courts. He has a better record on the surface, so even if he is not as experienced as Ramos-Vinolas, he will hold the edge in the contest.
