Victoria Azarenka v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

Two previous encounters between these two players have resulted in a win apiece for both. Kenin won at the 2019 Acapulco Open while Azarenka carved out a double bagel in Rome 2020.

Azarenka 2-2 This Season

After making it to the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1, Azarenka has lost back to back matches including one to Linda Noskova. The second defeat came at the hands of Veronika Kudermetova in the first round of the Adelaide International 2 in the week leading up to this first major of the season.

If one were to look at the silver lining though, Azarenka has continued to show her mettle in both those matches.

Against Noskova two of the three sets including the decider went into a tie-breaker. And then Kudermetova also needed three sets to get past Azarenka in the second Adelaide opener.

Azarenka has won the Australian Open title twice in her career but at the same time she was knocked out in the first round of the 2020 and 2021 editions too.

And here, she has one of the trickiest opponents she could face first up.

Kenin Improving Regularly

Much like Azarenka, Kenin is also a former winner here but in more recent times she has fallen away in fitness, form and rankings.

What will augur well for the American are the signs of her form this year, which have been good. One might argue we are looking at a very small sample space of two tournaments but experts reckon her verve is back.

Kenin made the second round at the Auckland Open in the first week of the season, where she went down to Cori Gauff. But then in Hobart, the American carved out three successive victories before losing to Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the semifinals.

As far as her skills are concerned, it looks like Kenin is almost close to her best. It will now be about her ability to outlast her opponent on court.

Azarenka v Kenin Prediction and Tip

Azarenka starts off a favourite here but quite honestly it’s a matter of 12 of one, a dozen of the other here. Nothing to choose and we could see a three-setter here.
