Bonzi Off to a Great Start in 2023

World no. 50 Benjamin Bonzi has made a solid start in 2023.

The 26-year-old Frenchman reached his maiden ATP final in the tour opener in Maharashtra.

Bonzi had beaten Tseng Chun-hsin, Emil Ruusuvuori, Filip Krajinovic and Botic Van de Zandschulp en route the final. But a first tour-level title remained elusive as he went down to Tallon Griekspoor in a nail biting final.

The Frenchman, who will be making his second appearance at the Australian Open after a second round exit on debut last year, is yet to go past the round of 64 in a major.

A decent player on hard as well as clay courts, Bonzi won six Challenger titles from seven finals in 2021. He also reached two Challenger finals in 2022 and won both of them. Last year, also saw him consistently compete at the top level and he did a decent job of reaching the semifinals in Marseille and Mallorca and finishing as a quarterfinalist in three other tournament.

He’s an improved player this year and will be hoping to reach at least the third round, but may face a potential second round match against Pablo Carreno Busta, who opens against Padro Cachin.
