Hubert Hurkacz v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

Lorenzo Sonego leads Hubert Hurkacz 4-2 in their head-to-head, however, on hard courts (including indoors), it is tied at 2-2. Their last meeting in Metz was won by Sonego last season.

Perfect Hurkacz Sweeps Past Martinez

Hubert Hurkacz produced a near-perfect performance in his first-round match, as he dismantled Spain’s Pedro Martinez 7-6 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 49 minutes.

The first set was tight and the moment it went into a tiebreak, it became evidently clear, whoever lost it would have a mountain to climb to get into the match.

Luckily for Hurkacz his game stood up to the task as he forced three errors to win the breaker by a whopping score 7-1. Hurkacz secured two breaks of serve in the second set, in game 5 and game 7, and repeated the trick in the third set.

Overall, the Polish No. 1 tallied an astonishing 53 winners to his opponent’s 16, fired 24 aces to his opponent’s zero, and perhaps impressively, did not face a single break point in the match.

Sonego Outlasts Borges

Lorenzo Sonego also came through his opening round, beating Nuno Borges in four sets in a match that lasted three hours and 17 minutes.

The pair were locked in a tight battle in the first set, but it was the Italian who nudged ahead in the tiebreak and sealed it with an unreturnable serve.

Sonego then went on to establish a two-sets-to-love lead when he converted a break point at the second attempt in the eighth game before serving with aplomb.

The Portuguese did not wilt. And instead kept putting pressure on Sonego’s serve quite consistently in the third. And despite spurning two set points at 6-5, he would win the third set in a tiebreak.

However, momentum was only short-lived as Sonego came roaring in the fourth. He broke Borges in the second and fourth games in a one-sided set to seal the match.

Hurkacz v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Oddly enough, both Hurkacz and Sonego hit 53 winners in their first-round match, but the Pole did so in three sets. Last time out Sonego came out on top on the indoor hard courts in Metz. We cannot rule out another upset, but Hurkacz looks very assured in his game to get the job done this time.
