Lehecka Masters Coric

Jiri Lehecka deliver a minor shock on Monday as he knocked out Croatia’s No. 21 seed Borna Coric 6-3 6-3 6-3 in just over two hours, making it a sixth first-round exit in eight visits at the Australian Open for Coric.

Coric created a first real opening, holding three break points in the first game of the match, but Lehecka came up with some stunning winners to wipe them away. And soon after it was Coric who was playing catchup after getting broken twice in quick succession.

But despite Coric recovering a break back, Lehecka still ran away with the first set, saving a couple of break points in the ninth game. Lehecka made the move again in the second set, passing Coric with n exquisite backhand shot to go up a break. A few games later, Coric dropped another service game to cede the set.

For most of the afternoon, it was Lehecka’s backhand doing the damage and he tore Coric apart beyond repair with one of the shots of the day –  a silky and sublime passing shot down the line to earn the crucial.

Eubanks Beat Adelaide 2 Champion Kwon

Christopher Eubanks won a titanic tussle against Soonwoo Kwon that stretched to five sets and which lasted just over three hours. Eubanks triumphed 6-3 6-7 6-3 4-6 6-4.

When the match was destined to go into a deciding fifth set, Eubanks had the energy to carry the day given Kwon’s arduous week in Adelaide where he won the tournament just 48 hours earlier.

The American recovered brilliantly to dropping the second-set tiebreak. And despite winning this match in five, he was only broken once in over three hours.

Eubanks tallied 42 aces (with 83 winners in total), the most by any player on day one, with just five double faults, which is an immaculate ratio.

Lehecka v Eubanks Prediction and Tip

The return will be key for Jiri Lehecka. Eubanks serves at an astonishing pace and has a higher percentage of hitting his spot. If the Czech can get most of the balls back and force the American into a series of lengthy exchanges, Lehecka should take control, particularly off his backhand which tormented Coric.
