Shuai Zhang v Maryna Zanevska
A very interesting second-round matchup between Zhang and Zanevska has the Chinese player favoured to win. It’s not hard to imagine why because she’s the better player on hard courts and the results over the year back that up.
They played twice so far and Zanevska won on clay which is her better surface while Zhang won on hard courts. Both of them are pretty solid players but generally speaking Zhang tends to show up better in the more important matches.
It’s been a solid start for both as Zhang has a 4-3 record while Zanevska has a 4-2 one. Neither had any problems in the first match either so I think we should see a good match from both.
Zhang is widely expected to win and we recommend that but if you are feeling daring you might try her to win in straight sets. It’s very risky though.

Caroline Garcia v Alison van Uytvanck
Native player Caroline Garcia made a winning start in her hometown and she plans to keep that going against van Uytvanck. They played three times so far and Garcia leads 2-1. Two of their matches played happened at this event as they faced off in 2020 and 2022.
van Uytvanck won in 2020 while Garcia won last year. The French player is widely expected to win this one because her start to the year has been stellar. She’s been playing on a high level for a while now and her 7-2 score right now is a testament to that.
van Uytvanck has been okay so far with a 4-2 record but she’s a really strong indoor player so she is always a danger in these conditions. This is a tricky matchup for Garcia because she can get beaten if the Belgian catches her on a bad day.
It happened on this very court two years ago. I would not advise betting on her but I’m sure she can keep this match fairly close.

Bianca Andreescu v Anastasia Zakharova
Bianca Andreescu had a good start in round one in Thailand and she hopes to keep that going in round two. She’s the best player in the draw so she would like to leave the country with a trophy but she needs to keep her level high for a few matches.
3-2 this year is the same score her opponent has but Andreescu is the far better talent. Zakharova is a good player, her win over Schmiedlova proved that but this is another league. They never played so far so there is some chance that she catches Andreescu off guard.
Zakharova is a talent and her best tennis comes on hard courts which makes me think she’ll probably play aggressively forcing Andreescu to hit with her. I don’t think it’s a battle she can win over the span of three sets but I do think she’ll push her.
There is solid value in trying the over because the games are set quite low and I can see the Russian pushing it over with some solid play.
