Tamara Zidansek v Lin Zhu Head to Head

Zidansek Shocks Fruhvirtova

Zidansek was a 2/1 underdog coming into her second round match against the highly talented teenager Linda Fruhvirtova but used her experience and guile to go past her in three sets.

In a match that lasted nearly three hours, Zidansek stunned the world number 51, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to enter the last eight.

It was an encounter filled with issues with serves for both players. A total of 14 service breaks were on show from the 29 games that were contested, a whopping break every other game.

This included five in the final set in which Fruhvirtova was down 2-5 at one stage, only to rally to prevent Zidansek from closing out the match at 5-3. And then Zidansek broke the Fruhvirtova serve to clinch it off her second match-point.

Zidansek had earlier eased past Astra Sharma in the opening round having come into this tournament on the back of three successive opening round losses.

Zhu Lives up to the Favourites Tag against Jang

Not too many had given South Korea’s Su Jeong Jang a chance against the 54th-ranked, in-form Zhu but she still managed to push their second round encounter to a two hour, 21 minute battle.

In the end, it was Zhu’s better pedigree at crucial moments that shone through as she won 6-4, 7-6 (6) to march into the quarterfinal.

Much like the Zidansek encounter, nearly half the games contested saw breaks of serves. In fact, Zhu struggled so badly on serve she failed to save any of her five break-points. It was her ability to create 15 break-points on her Jang’s serve that allowed her to edge past the South Korean player.

This follows a struggling performance against Xiyu Wang in her first round win where Zhu needed three sets to come through.

While she had made the fourth round at the Australian Open before this, Zhu will know she needs to serve a lot better against Zidansek who has the experience to pull off an upset here.

Zidansek v Zhu Prediction and Tip

While Zidansek is 13/10 to win this, we are edging towards her to scrape past Zhu in a fighting encounter.
