Camila Osorio v Linda Noskova Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Osorio and Noskova.

Osorio Edges Past Niemeier

After having needed three sets to upset Alize Cornet, Osorio won her second match in a row as an underdog as she usurped Jule Niemeier to make the quarterfinals.

Osorio was on the court for two hours and five minutes and carved out a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over Niemeier in her second round match.

Up a break, Niemeier served for the first set at 5-4 but was broken to love and while she saved three set-points after that, Osorio clawed back to take the lead.

In the second set too, it was Niemeier who grabbed a 4-1 lead with a break of serve. The duo exchanged breaks again to allow Niemeier to serve for the second set as well, but the fighting Osorio broke her serve two times in a row to seal off her place in the quarters.

As we had mentioned in our preview for this encounter, it was a bit of a surprise to see Osorio start off a second-favourite. Against Noskova though, it’s not that big of a surprise but at 9/4, those are rather long odds for an Osorio win.

Noskova Continues Her Top 50 Quest

A win in her second round match against Mayar Sherif should take Noskova into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings when the new rankings are released the next week unless something extraordinary happens. Another victory in the quarterfinal should seal that deal.

Noskova had begun the previous season ranked 265th in the world and here we are, less than 13 months on where she is knocking on the doors of even a top-40.

A huge chunk of that is down to her performance at the Adelaide International earlier this year, where as a qualifier, Noskova made it all the way to the final.

And while she was sent packing in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open, the 18-year-old has resumed superbly in Lyon.

After sending out Garbine Muguruza 6-1, 6-4 in the first round, Noskova toppled Sherif 6-3, 6-2 in the second to set up this meeting against Osorio. The match lasted a mere hour and nine minutes and saw Noskova hold on to her serve every single time.

Even against Muguruza, Noskova had been broken just once, an indicator how strong she is with her serving. That will be a huge advantage coming into this last eight match-up.

Osorio v Noskova Prediction and Tip

As opposed to Noskova’s serving, Osorio has struggled to get going with it and that could be the difference between the two players. Osorio’s fighting qualities could help her push Noskova but that’s where it will end.
