Mannarino Returns to Dallas

Adrian Mannarino played in Dallas last year and he is returning to try and gain some more points. It hasn’t been that great of a start for him this year with some lacklustre performances overall.

He’s only 3-3 on the year and it seems like the veteran is starting to lose a step. An always tricky player to compete against, Mannarino has a tricky playstyle that many players do not like. He doesn’t have too much power but he has a lot of precision.

Both the serve and the groundstrokes are very precise albeit lack power. It makes him very tough to play on fast surfaces because he moves you around the court before finishing it off with a volley if need be.

There has been more success against him this year as he does seem slower and misses more often than in the previous years.

Johnson’s Swan Song

Steve Johnson isn’t playing much tennis lately but he does continue to play some events in America. It’s clear that his career is slowly coming to a close but he’s still a tricky player to beat, especially when he plays on his native soil.

Like many Americans, Johnson has that typical serve plus forehand combination that is his preferred way of doing damage. It should do him well in conditions like Dallas and he played fairly decently last year here.

The score overall is 2-1 for him and he actually played Mannarino last year in Dallas. A close affair but ultimately he wasn’t able to get it done. Perhaps this year will make it better but he hasn’t played much and his fitness will be a question mark.

The win over Mannarino last year in Cincinnati should give him a good blueprint as to how to approach this matchup although it will be tough.

Mannarino v Johnson Prediction and Tip

So they played last year in Dallas and Mannarino won that in three sets. Generally, their matches are not that close but I think we might see one close here again. When it comes to the winner I lean towards Mannarino.
