Arthur Rinderknech v Luca Nardi Head to Head

Rinderknech and Nardi will be facing off for the first time in a competitive match in their careers.

Rinderknech on a Three-Match Losing Streak

Rinderknech began the season with a straight-set win over Francisco Cerundolo in the United Cup but since then he has struggled to get going.

He then fell to a straight-set but fighting defeat to Borna Coric in the second match of that tournament, and followed that up with back to back opening round losses.

At the Adelaide International 2, Rinderknech was sent packing after he had taken the first set against Marc-Andrea Huesler. And this was followed by a first round loss at the hands of Yosuki Watanuki at the Australian Open.

As a result of these defeats, Rinderknech has fallen from his season-starting rank of 44th to his current 68th on the ATP charts.

Rinderknech’s results last February included a semifinal appearance at the ATP Doha, and he will need to pack a performance or two to get close to defending those many points from the previous season.

Nardi Slow off the Blocks Even on the Challenger Circuit

It’s not been the best of starts in 2023 for the 19-year-old Nardi who has fallen from 135th in the world to 164th coming into the qualifiers of this tournament. This has been thanks to his early defeats even on the Challenger circuit as the clay-court specialist Nardi tries to adapt to other surfaces.

Following a second round exit at the Canberra Challenger, Nardi has fallen in the opening qualifier at the Australian Open, and the first rounds at each of Tenerife Challenger, Quimper Challenger and Koblenz Challenger.

Which is why, despite being a favourite in his qualifier matches against Maxime Janvier and Benoit Paire here in Montpellier, even he would have been surprised to earn himself a spot in the main draw here.

Things get tougher now in the first round but for the time-being Nardi would be glad to know even this qualification has helped him climb up eight spots already. Can he do better though?

Rinderknech v Nardi Prediction and Tip

Rinderknech will be a favourite to stall his three-match losing streak against a player who has struggled to get going all season. A straight-set win looks like a distinct possibility.
