Taylor Fritz v Jack Sock Head to Head

Taylor Fritz leads Jack Sock 3-1 in their head-to-head at ATP level. Incidentally, they last met at this tournament 12 months ago, with Fritz coming out on top in straight sets.

First Outing for Fritz Since Melbourne Loss

Top-ranked American Taylor Fritz will be playing for the first time since his marathon five-set loss to Alexei Popyrin at this year’s Australian Open.

Fritz was one of the high-profile seeds to lose before the second week, and it came as a massive surprise given his consistency over the last two seasons.

Add to the fact that Popyrin had spent the last year outside the Top 100, and the result was pretty much a foregone conclusion even before a ball was struck. Except that Fritz produced a very erratic display and surprisingly showed more nerves than his underdog opponent.

Popyrin used it to his advantage and was inspired by the thousands of Aussies who cheered him on every step of the way to shock the eighth seed at the tournament.

While the result was indeed a setback given his strong start to the season at the United Cup, he will have a chance to wipe it off his memory at the Dallas Open.

Sock Advances Past Ivashka

While Fritz had a bye in the opening round, Jack Sock did not have that luxury. Sock, a former world No. 8 himself, was entering this year’s tournament in Dallas as a wild card. And he duly delivered on all fronts.

For the drama and nerve-shredding moments, his opening-round match had almost everything. Sock came out on top of a seesaw match 7-6 4-6 6-4 against Ilya Ivashka in three hours and four minutes.

And more importantly, it was his first ATP win since stunning David Goffin at last year’s Citi Open, also on US territory. Sock was clutch at the crucial points. He saved a jaw-dropping 15 of 18 break points, the kind of stat that ensured Ivashka would leave Dallas emptyhanded.

Sock admitted he spent almost three months getting his body in shape and even forfeited his participation at any tournaments in Australia this season. It’s fair to say his hard work paid off big time on Monday evening.

Fritz v Sock Prediction and Tip

It’s a rematch of last year’s meeting in Dallas and honestly, a similar result is in store. Fritz is playing at an incredible level and will be keen to wipe off his Australian Open disappointment off his memory bank.
