Shapovalov Returns to Action in Dallas

Denis Shapovalov will return to action in rather more unfamiliar surroundings at this time of the season. Shapovalov is set for his main draw debut at the Dallas Open where he will play ATP’s mover of the week Yibing Wu.

Shapovalov usually plays in Europe the annual trek in the Middle East. But he has revamped his schedule as he aims for strong results in the March Sunshine Double.

As far as his schedule goes, there will be just a second visit to Acapulco following his stay in Dallas. Last year he won 22 matches on hard courts the most he has garnered in a single season at Tour level.

Shapovalov is 4-2 for the new season, losing in the quarterfinal of the Adelaide International to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. While at the Australian Open, he was beaten by Hubert Hurkacz in the third round in five sets.

Wu Beats on Mmoh on Milestone Day

Yibing Wu became just the second Chinese man to break the ATP’s Top 100 after his run to the Cleveland Challenger final where he lost narrowly to Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Wu joins fellow compatriot Zhizhen Zhang and will now be looking to make a lasting impression on the main tour.

As far as his first round goes, he won in three sets against USA’s Michael Mmoh. Wu needed two hours and five minutes to pick up his 7th main draw win on the ATP Tour.

The two players exchanged the first two sets, but it was the 23-year-old Chinese man who raised his level in the decider. He out-aced Mmoh in the third set and saved all four break points he faced on his serve.

And crucially, the only break point converted in the third set was what earned Wu his win and second draw berth.

Shapovalov v Wu Prediction and Tip

Wu cannot be taken lightly in this match. He’s so tactically adept at making things interesting against the third seed. But Shapovalov, with all his experience, should find a way of keeping the Chinese man at bay.
