Jannik Sinner v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head
It’s 2-2 from their previous four meetings, but Sinner won the most recent battle and that was in the third round of the Australian Open. The Italian made a remarkable comeback in that contest, winning the match after losing the first two sets to the Hungarian.

World no. 17 Jannik Sinner brings a 5-2 season record to Montpellier. The second seed, who received a first-round bye, was a quarterfinalist at the Adelaide International and made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open in his first two tournaments of the season.
The 21-year-old is making a third appearance in the tournament and is yet to win a contest. He lost in straight sets to Mikael Ymer in the opening round in 2020 and in three sets to Aljaz Bedene two years ago. Will fortunes change for him this year?
He has shown good form so far. However, he will be a touch disappointed not to have gone deeper in Adelaide, where he lost to Seabastian Korda in the last eight stage after winning the first two rounds with ease.
He will also be disappointed to have missed out on a place in the last eight at the Australian Open after a herculean comeback effort against Fucsovics in the third round and another similar bid in the fourth round against Stefanos Tsitsipas, which fell short in the fifth set.
Sinner is a six-time champion on the tour and had a remarkable run in 2021 when he won four title from five finals. But there was a little dip in form last year as a result of which he ended up playing just one final which he won in Umag.

Fucsovics Holds Off Blancaneaux
Facing Sinner will be Marton Fucsovics, who knocked out French qualifier Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the opening round on Tuesday.
In a match that last for two hours and 37 minutes, Fucsovics 8 of 11 break points and converted 6 of 9 to win 7-5, 5-7, 6-0.
The 30-year-old, ranked no. 67th in the world, improved to 8-4 from all levels this year. He had begun the season by claiming his sixth Challenger Tour title, when he triumphed in Canberra. He couldn’t qualify for Adelaide-2, but made it to the third round of the Australian Open, where he squandered a two set lead to lose to Sinner.
Since that defeat, he lost both his matches again France at the Davis Cup last week. He snapped the three-set losing streak on Tuesday and will be looking to build on that.
He is playing in the main draw in Montpellier for the first time. Can he reach the last eight?

The last time they met it turned out to be a close affair, which eventually needed a fifth set to separate the two. One can expect this contest to go the distance as well. Sinner is the one who has been the better player on the tour over the last two years and that’s the reason why he starts as the favourite.
